UKIP Still Have Their Heads Buried in the Sand

For all those who thought that UKIP could be a credible voice in British politics, rather than a ragbag of extremists, xenophobes and conspiracy-theorists, evidence to the contrary has now been provided courtesy of their candidate for the European Parliament, Stuart Agnew.

Andrew Duff

Andrew's Liberal Democrat MEPs are committed to a united, international approach to tackling climate change through investment in renewable energy and greater energy efficiency.

Speaking at a debate at the invitation of the Norfolk Federation of Women's Institutes, Stuart Agnew, UKIP candidate for the European Parliamentary elections in June made his party's policy on climate change perfectly clear; that they would remove all on-shore wind farms and that no off-shore wind farms would be publicly subsidised. They would re-open Britain's coal mines and rely on coal and nuclear power in response to the global environmental crisis.

Andrew Duff, who also attended the debate, expressed his disappointment after the debate: "As hard as UKIP try to present themselves as a party in touch with reality, today we have seen that they are unable to open their eyes to the gravity of this environmental situation. The only way we can overcome this crisis is by meeting European targets to cut carbon emissions. So great is UKIP's xenophobic fear of Europe coming together to solve this problem, that they would cover the UK in nuclear plants."
