County Council winner in Handside and Peartree Malcolm Cowan has thanked all his supporters and voters. 'It was heartening to have my work recognised with an increased majority' he said.
'I got an enormous number of thanks and good wishes as I went round to people's homes. To think we were in third place two elections ago and to have now won twice shows what can be done. I look forward to carrying on current issues - improvements to the rail footbridge, helping solve the problem over the condemned nursery building at Applecroft school and the fight to reduce noise from the motorway, amongst others.
Malcolm is now the only non-Conservative county councillor in Welwyn Hatfield, as the two Labour seats fell to the Tories by crushing votes. The Liberal Democrats clearly out-polled Labour across Welwyn Hatfield and across Herts as a whole. New council Conservative 55 (+9), Liberal Democrats 17 (+3), Labour 3 (-13), Others 2 (+1)
