Decisive Liberal Democrat Win in Tring as County Councillor Nick Hollinghurst Holds his Seat in Hertford

On June 4th, in the recent Hertfordshire County Elections, Nick Hollinghurst was re-elected as County Councillor for Tring and the Villages following a well-supported campaign. A dedicated group of activists and councillors co-ordinated and worked with a team of helpers and supporters across the division - at nearly 20 square miles one of the largest in the county.
Nick's massively increased majority and the high number of people who voted reflected their confidence in him.
The result was:
Liberal Democrats (Nick Hollinghurst) 3090 52.7% (+10.5%)
Conservatives (Olive Conway) 2205 37.6% (-4.2%)
Green (Rosalind Paul) 404 6.9% (+1.1%)
Labour (Tony Shaw) 170 2.9% (-7.3%)
The turnout was 48.8% Change on 2005 in brackets on right.
Christopher Townsend, Dacorum Borough Councillor for Tring West & Rural, (above, right) said: "I am delighted with Nick's excellent result. We all worked really hard meeting voters and discussing the issues that are important to the people of Tring and the villages. Their strong endorsement of Nick shows that the Liberal Democrats are the winning team here, providing a strong and independent voice on behalf of the people of the area."
Cllr Denise Rance, Liberal Democrat Leader on Dacorum Borough Council, (above, centre) said, "Nick has worked hard for Tring and Hertfordshire over the last four years. From saving local bus routes to insisting that county-wide problems with home care are put right, from overseeing NHS services to securing the Temperance Hall for the Tring Youth Project, Nick has been an effective councillor at all levels."
In response to the result Nick Hollinghurst said, "I am most grateful to the people of Tring and the Villages for so powerfully endorsing the way I have sought to represent them over the last four years. It is both a great honour and a great responsibility. The unusually high turnout here is a credit to our local people. They have looked beyond the present scandals and difficulties and have demonstrated a strong commitment to the fundamentals of our democracy and to the basics of our political process."
