St Albans Liberal Democrats changed the timing of their annual constituency barbecue to coincide with Sunday's nationwide "Big Lunch". The event took place in the grounds of the Lib Dem headquarters in Hatfield Road and was attended by 70 local party supporters and their families.
"We thought it would be great to have our own version of Tim Smits' big idea of people getting together to share great food in the open air," said Sandy Walkington, Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate for St Albans.
"Frankly the forecast of heavy showers made us pretty nervous that we would end up with the Big Drench. But some strategically placed marquees and gazebos saw us through OK, we had sunshine as well as the showers, the food was fantastic, and everyone voted it a huge success."
