Sal Brinton Prospective MP for Watford has been marking World Sight Day with Cllr Mark Watkin.
Sal, who is a Trustee of Christian Blind Mission, (one of the partners in Vision 2020) said "We are trying to highlight the fact that twice the number of women and girls are blind than men, usually because they don't get fair access to treatment. A new report published today sets out strategies to make this change. Most blindness in developing countries can be treated with low cost medicine or surgery, and a return to sight often means a return to earning a living or access to school."
Mark Watkin said "I was really shocked to hear that two out of every three blind people are women. I had no idea that women do not get the chance of treatment, and I'm pleased to support the campaign."
On World Sight Day, people are being asked to take a photo of a man and a woman, with one blindfolded, which will be put up as part of a tapestry of thousands of photos, to illustrate the problems of blindness. Attached is Sal and Mark's photo.
