Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate, Christopher Townsend has announced three key issues that are at "the heart of his campaign" to become the next MP for South West Hertfordshire.
Speaking this week, he said: "If elected to parliament, I will fight hard to get action on three issues which I believe are important to the people of South West Herts and elsewhere: fairer taxation, better opportunities for schoolchildren and a more open, honest and community-based form of governance.
"I endorse my party's plans to increase the Income Tax personal allowance to £10,000, to invest an extra £2.5 billion in schools and to hand back power to local communities; for if these ideas become reality, the average family in the UK will save £700 a year, children will enjoy smaller class sizes and people will have more of a say over what goes on in their area.
"But it is important that MPs think locally as well as nationally. My primary duty as MP would be to my constituents and I'd work hard to ensure they get a better deal.
"I will continue to push for fairer council tax in Dacorum, where the Tory run council is blocking proposals to minimise it. I will stand up in support of parents in Three Rivers who are campaigning for more school places. And I will help put pressure on Herts County Council to deliver better value for money, particularly in respect of road maintenance and repairwork.
"It is time that more MPs stood up for the people who elect them. Only then will people's trust in politics and politicians begin to be restored."
